Loaded fuel tanker overturns in dyke.

The tanker was fully loaded with kerosene. The weather conditions were very difficult and this led to the vehicle slipping sideways off the road into a water filled dyke that leads to the River Stour in Sandwich, Kent. It would have been easier to recover the vehicle if the load had been removed but it was considered too high an environmental risk to do so.
The recovery had to be done off the lane which was single track with a dyke on either side. The tanker was in ice cold water up to the lids so placing straps underneath the vessel was very awkward. Most of the recovery was carried out with the one Rotator as the others were busy, but the second vehicle eventually arrived to help complete the recovery.
