Sweeper incident...

Some of the more simple looking jobs often create greater difficulty. This little sweeper weighs about 4.5T and it is particularly unbalanced, especially when up on stands. There is very little weight at the front, the engine is mid mounted and the body puts its weight well towards the rear when in a raised position. We were called to raise the machine and place it back on stands after it had toppled over earlier in the day. There was very little headroom and not much space alongside the machine. The crane was set up and the front raised so the stands etc could be removed. The body had to be lowered and then the front of the machine was placed on new stands. Raising the rear caused the front to try and move off the stands, it was a bit like trying to place something on top of a skittle. Eventually it was raised and supported in such a way that the work could continue.
